Authors can submit an abstract in English to be considered for a paper presentation at the conference. The deadline for submission of abstracts is June 30, 2010. Please submit two copies of your abstract as described in the First Announcement and Call for Papers and Abstract Cover

Paper Submission and Author Instructions

General Policies

A manuscript must accompany all presentations, including all contributed technical papers and invited plenary lectures.

The manuscript must be received in time to be included in the proceedings on CD-ROM and book of abstracts, both of which will be provided to registrants at the opening of the conference. No hand-carried or loose papers are permitted. Papers for which no manuscript is available will be dropped from the final program.

The author/presenter must pre-register for the conference and have a room reserved at the conference venue or the paper will be dropped from the final program.

Submission Guidelines

Start the process for clearance/approval for public release of your paper, if needed, as soon as feasible. It is your responsibility to obtain the necessary clearances and/or approvals.

Submit your manuscripts (an electronic copy and two paper copies) to a National Representative, or if you do not have one, to the ISABE Administrative Secretary Prof. Frans Breugelmans (e-mail: fb.isabe@skynet.be) before April 30, 2011. DO NOT submit your manuscript directly to the editor.

Send the completed author checklist and author sheet with each final manuscript.

Each manuscript should be sent as follows:
For electronic copies:
– Use Microsoft Word (MS Word - *.doc) format for both the text and figures.
– Electronic versions should be capable of permitting corrections and/or changes by the editor to assure format and layout uniformity of all papers.

For paper copies:
– Same format as electronic copies
– Send an original plus one copy to your National Representative. The original will be forwarded to the editor before April 30, 2011. The National Representative will retain the paper and electronic copies as a backup.

Format of manuscript

Length: The Papers should be no longer than eight pages in the designated format. Some latitude in length is permissible, but excessively long papers are strongly discouraged.

Authorship: No more than four authors can be listed under the title. Additional contributing authors must be listed in a footnote, as given under format below.

Cover Page: Format per provided sample, which should include: Title, authors (maximum of four), affiliations, other contributing authors (names only as a footnote).

Text: 10 pitch, double column, format per provided sample, using MS Word (*.doc)

Color: Figures and photographs can be in color. Movies cannot be embedded as part of a manuscript, although brief video clips can be included in the presentation if selected stills are included in the manuscript.

Format of extended abstract

A book of abstracts will be prepared and distributed, along with a CD-ROM copy of the proceedings, to the registrants at the conference. It is important that the abstract is self-contained and attracts the reader to the full paper.

Abstract should neither be too short nor exceed a page, figures included.

Format of author sheet

The author sheet should contain the following information:

Contact author: Name, address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address

Presenting author's biography: One-half page, or less, single spaced

Preparation of Abstracts

Abstracts must be submitted for all papers using the Abstract Cover Sheet and following the instructions for Preparation of Abstracts, prior to June 30, 2010.

All abstracts will be reviewed and scored by the Executive Committee, which includes all National Representatives and Society Officers, for final decision on acceptance.

The total number of papers that can be accepted has been limited by the Executive Committee.

Scoring will be based on the criteria indicated on the Abstract Cover Sheet.

Please review and follow the guidelines below for submission of abstracts.

Mail two copies of the abstract as follows:
– First copy to your National Representative
– Second copy to Dr. Patrick Hendrick at isabe09abstracts@ulb.ac.be

If you do not have a National Representative, please e-mail your abstract to Prof. Frans A.E. Breugelmans at fb.isabe@skynet.be

Abstracts may be submitted by e-mail in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Portable Document File (PDF) format.

The Abstract Cover Sheet is available online. All figures and tables as well as the Abstract Cover Sheet must be included in electronic submissions.

Hard copy submissions are also acceptable. Whether using e-mail or a postal service, we strongly recommend that you verify that the abstract has been received if you do not receive a prompt acknowledgement.

Evaluation of abstracts is based on the rating system found in the Abstract Cover Sheet, a copy of which must be attached to each of the two copies of the abstract. The rating table given in the Abstract Cover Sheet indicates what is expected in an abstract.

A typical abstract should be a self-contained description of the paper, between 500 and 600 words, with figures and tables as necessary. A condensed statement of research in a single short paragraph without any supporting data or results is likely to be rejected as incomplete.
