Hydrogen For Aviation
SHORT COURSES

Hydrogen for Aviation (18-21 Sep 2024)

Description

The course will comprise a combination of lectures on fundamentals as well as an overview of the outcomes and lessons learned from state-of-the-art research programs by both Cranfield University and our industrial partners. The course will comprise materials on LH2 aircraft and propulsion system design along with LH2 fuel tanks, cryogenic fuel systems and integration including thermal management and control. The course will also cover concepts on aircraft performance, advanced propulsion systems for hydrogen and emissions. The course builds on thought leadership by Cranfield university and our industrial partners in several EU and UK ATI ongoing and concluded large research and innovation projects. Active participation from the delegates is strongly encouraged. All delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of this course.

What you will learn

The course provides delegates with an understanding of hydrogen in aviation along with its safety, certification, and challenges. The course will delve deep into H2 aircraft design covering concepts of LH2 tank design challenges, fuel system design, tank fluid movement and sloshing along with the aircraft design and performance analysis. In this course, you will gain knowledge in LH2 fuel-system thermal management and heat exchanger designs. The course will also shed light on low emission technologies to explore the opportunities and challenges of modern propulsion systems. It will include H2 combustor design, low NOx H2 combustion, thermoacoustics, health and safety considerations for H2 experimental rigs. Materials, manufacturing techniques, contrails formation and mitigation strategies will be covered providing a holistic picture and appreciation for an innovative and modern technology such as this one.
